Ibn Umar reported: We would refrain from seeking forgiveness for the people of great sins until we heard our Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, say, “Verily, I have saved my intercession for the people of great sins among my nation for the Day of Resurrection.” So we restrained much of what was in ourselves and we had hope for them.

عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ كُنَّا نُمْسِكُ عَنِ الاسْتِغْفَارِ لأَهْلِ الْكَبَائِرِ حَتَّى سَمِعْنَا نَبِيَّنَا صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ إِنِّي ادَّخَرْتُ شَفَاعَتِي لأَهْلِ الْكَبَائِرِ مِنْ أُمَّتِي يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ فَأَمْسَكْنَا عَنْ كَثِيرٍ مِمَّا كَانَ فِي أَنْفُسِنَا وَرَجَوْنَا لَهُمْ
